Now this you cannot do without. It’s not related to applying
the paint-oil, watercolor, acrylic or pencil. It’s what I use to
look at my photographs. I have been experimenting for 30 years and been
frustrated like crazy trying to get the detail and the little shifts
in color and value that the naked eye cannot see or an enlargement
won’t provide. I’ve tried all sorts of reading magnifiers, loupes,
eyeglasses and specialty equipment that can be used with one hand
while painting freely with the other and that gives a read of the
photograph that isn’t too magnified, distorted or headache provoking.
There is nothing out there for us.
I found one that was close that I could adapt. That is what I did and
have decided to share with you. My magnifier is for all artists. I have
been using it for 15 years and absolutely swear by it. I have not shown it
to more than a few people in that time as it is simply too valuable a
weapon. My son is learning to paint and it is as critical as his brushes
to painting.
| My most important tool is my magnifier. |
 |
Custom made to my own specifications. Clear casing allows
full light to flood the photograph enabling you to see everything. Magnification is not
excess and yet to minimal - just perfect..
Near sighted or long sighted doesn’t matter-you adjust to your own viewing. It works
for everyone
| Light and Easily Hand Held |
 |
A magnifier that can be held easily in one hand while painting
with the other.
| 6 x Magnification |
 |
This unit has the perfect magnification ratio of 6 x for
use with all photos. If you like the detail in my painting then it is due to a very
large extent to perfect magnification ratio of my magnifier. A higher magnification is
‘excessive', as the context of what is around that part being studied is lost.
‘It’s simply too difficult to see where you are going next with the brush and when
an artist is drawing he’s anticipating where to go next and this unit allows me to do
just that’.
There is nothing out there even close to this.
